Princess Pajamas

Gracie and I have been shopping this week for our "angels" off of the Salvation Army Angel Tree. In past years, it has been a bit of a struggle for her to buy something for someone else and not herself. This year, at the tender age of five, I believe my own little angel is starting to get "it." She has been asking a lot of questions about why we are buying presents and clothes for strangers and wondering why people are losing jobs. However, my biggest "aha" moment came when we were shopping at Target today and she insisted that we buy overpriced princess jammies for C., our five-year-old angel. In my mind, I had finished our "angel" shopping. As Gracie reminded me, "We bought her the princess castle, just like she wanted. So... we know she loves princesses." And then, just for emphasis, she added, "She would love THESE jammies. I want her to have THESE." This, coming from my own princess-loving little girl. She never once asked for the jammies for herself. We bought the over-priced princess pajamas, of course.
